Short answer: in India you can start Google Ads with any budget, but for lead generation most service businesses need at least ₹15,000–30,000 a month to get enough clicks to learn from. Cost per click ranges from a few rupees to several thousand, depending on the industry and keyword.

Real cost-per-click examples in India

These are Google Keyword Planner "top of page bid" ranges I pulled in September–October 2026 for marketing-service searches in India's tier-1 cities:

KeywordTop-of-page bid (low – high)
hire google ads expert₹41 – ₹248
google adwords expert₹68 – ₹758
google adwords consultant₹85 – ₹613
google ppc consultant₹85 – ₹613
run google ads on my website₹67 – ₹1,220

Keyword Planner estimates; real costs depend on competition, ad quality and timing. Check your own keywords before setting a budget.

In my own India campaign for these keywords, the actual average cost per click over the first week was about ₹177. Industries such as legal, finance, insurance and real estate are usually much more expensive than local retail or education.

GST and other costs to plan for

  • GST: Google Ads invoices in India include 18% GST on your ad spend, so a ₹10,000 budget costs about ₹11,800. Registered businesses can usually claim input tax credit; check with your accountant.
  • Management: your own time, or a specialist's or agency's monthly fee.
  • Setup: conversion tracking and a landing page. Skipping these is the most expensive mistake, because you can't tell which clicks work.

How to set your Google Ads budget in India

  1. Decide how many leads you want per month, for example 20.
  2. Estimate your conversion rate. Use your own data, or take 5% as a starting example.
  3. Clicks needed: 20 ÷ 0.05 = 400.
  4. Average cost per click from Keyword Planner, for example ₹120.
  5. Monthly ad spend: 400 × ₹120 = ₹48,000, plus 18% GST.

How to lower your cost per lead

  • Use phrase and exact match at the start, and a strong negative keyword list.
  • Target only the cities and areas your customers come from, with "Presence" location targeting.
  • Schedule ads for the hours you can answer calls.
  • Track real leads as conversions and send traffic to a page that matches the ad.
  • Read the search terms report every week.
